Annapolis Royal to Lunenburg |
Wednesday August 3 2016
The Wagon Masters alternate route was a
little longer than the unpaved road route I mentioned in the last
posting. We drove about 125 miles on two lane road all the way across
from the Bay of Fundy to the Atlantic ocean. It was a pretty good
road with rolling hills and lots of scenic views, but no shoulders
for emergency parking.
Our campground for two nights, called
Little Lake Family Campground is not much to look at, but we have
water and electric hookups and slow WiFi. We can live with the
trailer trash ambiance for two days, we won't be spending all that
much time in the park anyhow.

After getting here and setting up we
drove our cars into the town of Lunenburg. The town has a long
history in the Cod fishing industry, but now is mostly a tourist
destination. Our group started our town visit with a guided tour of
the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, afterwards we dispersed to
explore as we pleased.
Learning about the Bluenose |
Besides learning about the boom years
and decline of the Cod fishing industry, we also learned the history
of the famed fishing sailboat, Bluenose. We boarded several fishing
vessels from different era's and then were sitting on a bench next to
a large empty boat slip when the Bluenose2 (An exact replica of the
original) glided into the harbor and parked right in front of us.

Of course before leaving the harbor we
had to do the T shirt shop crawl, I bought myself a sweatshirt, it's
getting cool up here at night. None of the four of us wanted a
restaurant meal, but we had passed a Wendy's and all were in favor of
good old American fast food!
Back at the campground, we let Maggie
play in her pool for a while. I had to put air in one of the jeep
tires again. Tomorrow I will drop the girls off at the small mall we
saw coming into town, while Clay and I find a tire repair shop. The
jeep is also in terrible need of a car wash, so I will look for one
of those too.
