Short 50 mile trip to Halifax |
Friday August 5 2016
Travel day again today, We left
Lunenburg at 10 am this morning for our really short run of about 55
miles to Woodhaven RV Park of Halifax. It's located in Hammonds
Plains which is about 25 miles from downtown Halifax but I guess
campground marketing is like real Estate, location, location ,location.
Shortly after our arrival Millie went
to the campground laundry room and cleaned up all our clothes. The
tour company had a Jambalaya dinner planned for the afternoon. Millie
and I decided to skip that and go out on a date.
First thing we did was find a car wash,
the jeep was filthy after towing it all the way from South Carolina.
After driving a while and not running across one we stopped and asked
some young men at a Jiffy Lube. One of them found a car wash location
on his smart phone and we copied the address into Crocodee,
(Crocodile Dundee) our Australian voiced Car GPS.
After giving the jeep a good scrubbing
we got on a nearby freeway, not really lost, just not exactly sure
which way to go, we soon found ourselves traveling in the direction
of downtown Halifax. We thought, why not, we're almost there. Finding
our way to the waterfront we parked the jeep and walked the docks.
Lots of high end condo's and big office buildings directly across the
street from the harbor, lots of people strolling on the docks and
patronizing the many bars, restaurants and food stands. We saw about
a half a dozen street performers, mostly musicians, but saw no
homeless or panhandlers.
I wanted pizza and the only place we
saw was a sidewalk carryout food vendor. We got large slices, each
one was about ¼ of the pie and dined at a nearby table. We walked
the length of the downtown harbor back to the jeep and used Crocodee
to swiftly and efficiently guide us out of the city and back to the
campground.
